ITA – 2019 U.S. NATIONAL TAEKWON-DO CHAMPIONS

2019 U.S. National Taekwon-Do Champions!

The country’s elite athletes competed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from June 30th through July 7th. International Taekwon-Do Academy was among those elite school’s representing the home State of New Jersey. This major event took place at the Fort Lauderdale Convention center with nearly 5,000 competitors from across the nation.

On May 11, 2019, 29 students from the International Taekwon-Do Academy, Jersey City; participated in the New Jersey State championship. All 29 team members qualified to participate at the U.S. Taekwon-Do Nationals 2019; which was be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

International Taekwon-Do Academy students have trained countless hours, days, weeks and years for the opportunity to represent our hometown and State of New Jersey at the United States Taekwon-Do Nationals. Being that this was our first time representing our State and academy, our team is humbled for this opportunity!

Over the years, International Taekwon-Do Academy has produced some of the finest martial artists in Northern New Jersey. We have produced many local and State Champions in Forms and Sparring. It is often said that a student could walk into a major martial arts competition in the Tri-State area, and the competitors and organizers will know about International Taekwon-Do Academy.

That tradition of top fighters and form competitors continues today with International Taekwon-Do Academy members being top competitors in both International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) and World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) championships. Although most beginners students may not be ready to be world-class competitors, it is nice to know that the training they are receiving is of world-class quality.

Many congratulations to the following members for their commitment to the martial arts and their outstanding efforts at the New Jersey State Taekwon-Do championship:

Dear students,

On July 27, 2019; I will be inducted to the master’s Hall of Fame. It is with great pleasure and honor to be able to represent our academy.

I have 37 years of martial arts training, both military and civilian. To be officially recognized as a Hall of Famer is life changing and humbling.

NUTRITION & SUPPLEMENTATION

Nutrition & Supplementation

Proper nutrition and supplementation can get confusing if we do not understand the benefits between whole foods and supplements. It is extremely easy to fall into the “unhealthy” category if we do not watch what we eat.

We all know that healthy eating and fitness goes hand in hand. A healthy eating plan gives your body the necessary nutrients it needs every day while staying within your daily calorie goal.

Emphasize on eating a lot of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat dairy products to include lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts.

Do Limit yourself on the saturated and trans fats, sodium, and added sugars. Can you really see yourself eating fast foods every day? If we want to lose weight, we should definitely be avoiding these kinds of foods. You might be asking, can I have a burger on my cheat day! The answer is Hell yeah you can.. But DO NOT get confused with a cheat meal (Which is what you want) on your “cheat day”. Huge difference!

Everything we eat must be in MODERATION. Period!

When it comes to supplementation, understand that these supplements are not a meal replacement, it’s to supplement/add the calories to pack on weight. I always recommended my students, clients and friends to always start with whole Foods, fish oil, multi-vitamins and post workout shakes.

Last but not least, ensure to exercise portion control.

If you have any questions on supplementation and want to know what I use, comment below.

Stay tuned to your AWESOME transformation!

“Reviewed By Erin Nicole Cochran for Readers’ Favorite

Victor Teran’s Our Trip to the Zoo is a colorful children’s book about a young boy named Landon and his father who visit a zoo and learn to count to ten at the same time by the number of different animals that they see as they make their way through the zoo. Throughout the book, the numbers themselves are even in the shapes of the animals that they encounter on their journey. The narration style is a rhyming scheme which may also help to provide an educational tool for younger children as a way of remembering how to count from one to ten.

Our Trip to the Zoo by Victor Teran really caught my attention, not only with the storyline itself but with the illustrations as they subtly reminded me of comic strip cartoon characters that I might find in the funny pages of a newspaper. There was a nostalgic essence to them that I completely appreciated. If you are a fan of bright and colorful illustrations and rhyming storylines that teach as they go, you will want to share this book with the little ones in your own life, or perhaps as a gift to others with children. I feel it would also be a good resource to have on hand before a trip to a real zoo, as a way to show kids what they will be seeing so that they aren’t overly fearful, and will know what to expect. Victor Teran’s Our Trip to the Zoo will surely not disappoint, will encourage young readers and make learning how to count an enjoyable experience for all.”

FIRST COMPETITION 2017

Ultimate Taekwon-Do Challenge 2017…

28 students from the International Taekwon-Do Academy took part in the Ultimate Taekwon-Do Challenge in Tenafly, New Jersey. This is our first competition of the year, and our team was comprised of new competitors. It was definitely an exciting feeling for me as well for all of the new competitors who were representing our academy.

A competition is not about winning or losing; but instead it is about learning from your mistakes and competing with oneself to become a better student of Taekwon-Do. It is about testing your mindset and your practice on a spiritual level. When you compete with yourself, you bring out the best in yourself. Time, focus, determination, dedication and patience are examples of a great student.

HARD WORK PAYS OFF!

Their efforts are shown and proven at the event, because every ITA student puts their time and dedication to practice without any excuse or expecting a reward. ITA students understand that this is a discipline, an art guided by rules and regulations and by the 5 tenets of Taekwon-Do. Knowing this at a very young age puts them ahead of their peers as an athlete, academically, socially; but most importantly spiritual growth.

Many can see the difference between schools, and many of us can see the respect one has for another. In martial arts, one must always remain humble. Always show good sportsmanship. Win with dignity, lose with grace even if your opponent loses self control. Always respect the art. Remember, you are there to test yourself and your abilities. Nothing more but a training session against other schools. Give your best, but most importantly have fun and love what you do!

Our Academy participated on the following events:

Sparring – Mr. C. Hernandez, Ms. A. Shanghbag and Mr. M. Amy took 1st place. Ms. C. Martinez, Ms. G. Gomes (2x), Ms. R. Mhajan, Mr. J. Uriostegui, Mr. E. Cuevas and Ms. M. Amy took 2nd place. Ms. A. Martinez, Ms. I. Gomes, Mr. W. Rodriguez, Ms. P. Chen, Ms. A. Somwaru, Mr. Patrick Bebawy, Mr. Shvut Mahuwala, Ms. F. Ranghel, Mr. C. Clarke, Mr. A. Barragan, Mr. I. Diaz and Mr. D. Challa took 3rd place.

Patterns – Ms. C. Martinez, Mr. J. Uriostegui, Mr. G. Cruz, Mr. C. Belichian, Mr. E. Cuevas and Mr. D. Challa took 1st place. Ms. A. Martinez, Ms. G. Gomes, Ms. A. Somwaru took 2nd place. Ms. I. Gomes, Mr. W. Rodriguez, Ms. P. Chen, Ms. R. Mhajan, Ms. A. Shanghbag, Mr. S. Mahuwala, Mr.M. Amy, Ms. M. Amy, Ms. F. Ranghel, Mr. P. Bebawy and Mr. Christian Clarke took 3rd place.

Overall International Taekwon-Do Academy took 42 wins with 9 Golds, 10 Silvers and 23 Bronzes. In addition, our academy was awarded the “Best School 2017” at the Ultimate Taekwon-Do Challenge. Great team effort by everyone on Saturday’s competition. I am very proud of our team.

CONDUCT OF JUDGES / BIAS INTERPRETATION

We may encounter a bias judge(s) from time to time, but that should never affect us. I am very proud of our students, their performance and believe in their abilities. I hope everyone was able to see the difference between our school and others, as well as our own student’s character. Our school promotes kind heart, fairness and care for others no matter where they are from or what school they belong to.

A lot of instructors have lost the essence of being a true martial artist. I intend our school to continue promoting it with dignity, respect and love for the art! No matter the outcome from competitions and judges, rest assure that our students sets the example for others to emulate.

I truly believe our Academy is here for a greater purpose, and I can only accomplish this with you.

I hope that a small rubble on the road doesn’t stop any of you from reaching a greater destination.

The biggest trophies you have is your heart and mind. Without that, everything else is useless! I am extremely proud of your hard work team. Keep up the amazing work!

Be the LION, not the sheep!

Our next event will be on Saturday May 20th in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. We are looking forward to an awesome event…
